Fake Barn Country has been really good recently. Here's a discussion of impossible worlds in fictional "crossovers."
Fictional “crossover” and impossible worlds:There is no possible no world where John really exists (to satisfy the fictional truth that John exists) and John is merely a character in A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (to satisfy the fictional truth that he realizes he is a character in the book), but there is an impossible world where he is both these things. And it is that world, I submit, that is the world that corresponds to Eggers’ fictional scene.
