Movies

Over the past two weeks, I’ve seen more movies than I have in months. Here’s a quick rundown (with some comments that may be spoilers, but I’ve tried to keep that to a minimum):
  • Sweeny Todd - It’s hard not to like a Johnny Depp movies these days. That this was a musical took me by surprise (having known nothing about the movie before seeing it), but I quite liked it.
  • Juno - Excellent and quirky. I wanted the musician guy to show up again at the end of the movie, but that didn’t detract from the excellence.
  • There Will be Blood - Really, really good. This is another that I went to see knowing very little about it. I watched the trailer just a couple of hours before going to see it, was very impressed, and the full movie didn’t disappoint. Less actual blood than I was expecting.
  • Atonement - I thought it was quite a good ending. Tim didn’t like it, but I suspect what he didn’t like was the movie’s Britishness.
  • Kingdom of Heaven - At 145 minutes, this was almost as long as There Will be Blood’s 158 minutes. Overall a decent movie, though perhaps nothing exceptional. I did like the use of color throughout the movie.
  • No Country for Old Men - I feel like I need to watch this again to fully appreciate it. Very strange, and not at all the ending I was expecting.
Based on the trailers I’ve seen before these movies, I’d really like to see The Other Boleyn Girl and Stop Loss when they come out.
