Quite Night, Two

So. I ended up watching I, Robot last night. What a bizarre mish-mash of culture. US Robotics??? I didn’t even know they were still in business. I still have a USR modem packed away somewhere, and my original USR Palm Pilot (before they were bought by 3Com, and then spun off as Palm, and then spun off again as Palm One). But the notion of USR making robots doesn’t fit well with their status in my mind as being somewhat antiquated. Also, the Chuck Taylor throwback was kind of nice, if only the “vintage” had been 2000, say, and not the non-USA, Nike-era, 2004 version. Sigh.

And now I’m all alone again. No one around on this Saturday night.

… and i hear the quiet here in australia; i’ve decided to forgo my work on a TUE lecture (bash programming) and finish the bottle of merlot calling my name from the fridge; i am fully wrapped within Marcel Moring’s “In Babylon” … can’t seem to put this 400+ page thing down (highly recommended for those with quiet evenings)

‘tis funny how the sun travels from right to left in the southern hemisphere …; all my life (in the north) i’ve watched the sun “rise” to my left in the east and “set” to my right in the west, never once comtemplating that i am facing south to witness the rise and setting …

so here i am alone on a quiet evening in south-eastern australia, wishing greg was here to chat of tech, good books, or just nothing at all as we set watching constellations of stars that don’t speak of home ….
