Beach Photos

Enterprising readers curious about my reference to a new camera might have seen my latest Photo Friday picture. (In fact, the answer is present in the EXIF of the Photo Friday image.) The photo is not cropped, and has an aspect ratio that is new to this site. The original photo weighs in at 3008 by 2000 pixels, the very same as the maximum shooting resolution of my new Nikon D70.

I am absolutely loving this camera. The instant readiness upon turning it on, the feel of a real SLR, the click of the shutter, the speed of continuous shooting; It’s a fantastic combination of the strengths of my S400 and FM-10.

I’ve put up a new album of pictures from Pismo Beach and Malibu where the surfers and kitesurfers were out having fun at sunset. It’s a selection of the 700 megs of photos I took in the roughly two hours I was at the beaches. The photos are all a bit monotonous, all overwhelmed by the ocean and in need of a more powerful zoom lens, but I’m sure the road trip will provide plenty of opportunity for more lively shots.
