Airport Express
For years, I had imagined that a small 802.11 base station that was small enough to toss in my backpack and take anywhere with my laptop. A base station that would plug into an ethernet port, and either have a small power cord (built in to the enclosure, because I don’t need extra cables to stow in my bag) or powered by battery for relatively short-term wireless ability.
Last week, in Boston and without a workable ethernet solution, I finally bit the bullet and headed down to the Apple store in Cambridge to buy an Airport Extreme base station.
So, now, a week later, Apple has to up and do something like this.

Damn.. that’s just.. damn.
And it’s not all that expensive either. You really should be able to return it. Say “Oh, my __ got this for me and upon inspection it’s not what I need. Oh, what? Is this new?! Wow, THAT point is exactly what I need.”
Or ya know, if that doesn’t work. “Got the same birthday gift from two people, can I return this one. Ohh, that’s not exactly the same. Can I trade?”

As a fond observer of irony, I don’t suppose there’s any chance of you being able to make a return on the one with wires…
