Voter Data

Last week’s NYT Magazine’s piece “The Very, Very Personal Is the Political” has a good look at data mining in political campaigns.

“The microtargeter would tell me, ‘You know, if you own a Ford Explorer and you garden and like the outdoors and you’re over 50, there might be a high likelihood that you care about tort reform.’” Carney added, “I don’t know how they do this, and I was skeptical, but it works.”

But does this seem ambiguous (and amusing) to anyone else?

These days, the first stop is a comprehensive database of U.S. voters. There are fewer than half a dozen of them.

Hmmm.
