Birthday

Father's OfficeGary and I went out (again) to Father’s Office (again), this time for the upcoming.org launch party. We didn’t, however, find anyone associated with the launch party and instead drank and talked over the amazing cacophony of shit going on at Father’s Office on a Friday night (except for last Friday night, of course).

We drank some good beer (again), but this time ordered a basket (an actual, honest-to-God mini shopping-cart “basket”) of fries which were quite spectacular. After drinking for a while and not spotting anyone with an eye-patch for the meet-up (It beinging Talk Like A Pirate Day — “I’ll be the one wearing an eye patch. See you there?”) we decided to leave and find something better to do on a Friday night. Mind you, this was only at about 9:30. I was already pretty far gone.

We talked outside for what seemed like a few minutes but what, in reality, must have been a long fucking time and finally walked up to the Duck Blind Liquor. We glared at their seemingly amazing selection of rather eclectic beer (for a somewhat-shady corner-store) for another long while and finally settled on a pint-plus each — Arrogant Bastard and Monty Python’s Holy Grail Ale. Then we sat outside looking at the Calendar section of the LA Times and The Argonaut for movie listings. Upon discovering that the Laemmle had a midnight showing of Spike and Mike’s Sick and Twisted, it was on.

This year’s favorites are definitely Peepshow, Dr. Tran (with 3-D Glasses!), and (of course) Billy’s Balloon. We smuggled in our beer and some chips (with generous amounts of salt and vinegar) from The King’s Head and had a great time.

I told Gary that this night was a slightly early celebration of his birthday (which is on Saturday, not Friday), and that tomorrow was, at this point, just an obligation since it certainly wouldn’t begin to compare with what we did tonight. We’ll have to wait and see how tomorrow pans out, but I’m confident that my statement will hold true — tonight was off the hook.
