Michael Moore

Love him or hate him, there’s mounting criticism of Michael Moore and his work on Bowling for Columbine and Stupid White Men:

Time brings us Shame on You, Mr. Moore! Shame on You!, David Hardy attempts to show why Bowling for Columbine isn’t actually a documentary in Bowling for Columbine: Documentary or Fiction? and The Wall Street Journal’s OpinionJournal is running Unmoored From Reality.

Much of this is the sort of thing that can be read either way, depending most of all on your political leanings before reading. All are well worth the read and worth considering. Also worth a read is a transcript of Moore’s book tour appearance in Berkeley.

Most of these articles just made me mad. It seems all to easy to avoid the real issues and instead insult the delivery. America believes in freedom of speech, unless its unpopular.

If all they did was make you mad, then you’re not getting it. Freedom of speech is one thing, but deception for the sake of rallying the liberal left isn’t exactly the type of thing one would hope for in a figure such as Moore.

You can spew rhetoric all day, and the people who are with you will still be with you, and the people who are against you will still be against you. But when the smoke clears, you better have more than just rhetoric, because the people who need convincing will stop listening if it seems you aren’t being completely forthcoming.
