Space Shuttle Lost

News coverage on the loss of Space Shuttle Columbia:

The NASA website has an “Emergency Notice” online, but no permanent URL.

It bothers me that the only press coverage of the space program occurs when something goes wrong. How many people actually knew that a shuttle mission was in progress until it reigned debris over Texas? The space program, and our vastly under-utilized ability to explore with it, has fallen into the background noise. Truly, this is a sad day for space exploration.

i think nasa should do more moon missions than trying to travel further and further away from earth. like the columbia space shuttle that was a complete disaster and hey need to look at the problem and fix it and maybe improve the space shuttle.

The problem with the moon is that it doesn’t really gain you anything by going there. It’s like the space station - a good way to keep the space shuttle busy, but not a real end in itself. Going to Mars, for example, would offer plenty of research opportunities as well as the chance for a self-sufficient (scientific or otherwise) outpost.

The space program sure needs something to change though.
