Phil Agre’s web page (which I had never explored past the link for RRE) has a wealth of interesting and informative writings. Here are some highlights:

I’d especially recommend the Networking on the Network paper. I’ve read 20 pages of it so far (out of ~100), and skimming the rest of it shows it to be full of great information about networking both electronically and in person for researchers (targeted primarily at grad students).
