I don't buy this criticism of iTunes. Yes, it uses non-standard widgets, and, yes, the UI could be better. But people love the iTunes interface. No other music player comes close in my experience of Windows, Mac and linux players. The progress of Gnome does sound exciting, though.
The State and Future of GNOME:Apple, while separating audio from video, also bloats their applications through poor interface design, especially in the case of iTunes. [Apple] routinely uses non-standard widgets (or interface controls) in their interfaces, which has drastic impacts on the user experience.
