Backups

SuperDuper, perhaps the best backup application for backups on the Mac, finally got Leopard support recently. And for the first time in a long time, I’ve got an offsite backup of my Mac’s primary disk (OS and all data), my music (which has the added bonus of letting me listen to music at work), and my photos (120 gigs and counting).

I’ve got two identical 600GB OWC external firewire disks, one at home and one at work. They are identically partitioned, and have roughly the same content. I’m not entirely sure how I’ll end up syncing the music, but I use SuperDuper every day I’m at work and every night at home to sync my laptop. As for photos, I’m planning on keeping my new images in my local Aperture library until I can export them to both backup drives at which point I’ll relocate the masters to my ReadyNAS (which is my big RAID array for at-home use).

Having a good backup strategy in place gives me a (perhaps unsurprisingly) comforting feeling. Nice to know my data is protected.
