2006

As 2006 draws to a close, here’s a summary of the data I keep on travel, music, and beer.
Travel
I did a lot of traveling this year, visiting England, Montenegro, and Japan, and flying through 13 airports:
- Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI)
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW)
- Dubrovnik (DBV)
- General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Hartsfield - Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
- Kansai International (KIX)
- London Gatwick International Airport (LGW)
- London Heathrow International Airport (LHR)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- Memphis International Airport (MEM)
- Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
On 28 flights, I travelled 52,052 miles (with carbon offsets for 100,000 miles purchased from Terrapass).
Beer
I tried 281 unique brews this year from 153 different breweries (compared with 168 from 86 in 2004).
My favorite beers tried this year were:
- Boston Beer Company’s Utopias (a competitor for the title of world’s strongest beer)
- Pizza Port’s Hop 15 2XIPA (exceptionally hoppy and delicious)
- Otter Creek’s Vermont Lager (crisp)
- Magic Hat’s Single Chair (a Magic Hat brew only available at the brewery and Vermont ski slopes)
- Wagner Valley’s Maple Porter (sweet maple taste)
- Youngs Christmas Pudding Ale (like the name says, incredible taste of a Christmas pudding)
- Stone’s 03.03.03 Vertical Epic Ale (exceptional dark strong ale)
Music
Last.fm tells me that the 10 bands I listened to the most this year were:
- Yellowcard
- The Beautiful South
- Dropkick Murphys
- blink-182
- Rancid
- Johnny Cash
- Radiohead
- The Postal Service
- Green Day
- Sublime
The individual track charts were strongly correlated with the samo-fools compilation, as they are every year. Through repetition of listening to nail down track ordering, these tracks always get far more listens than anything else.
