Pacific Coast

August 6th, 2004 2:43 AM

Yesterday we drove north from San Francisco up the 1 to Sea Ranch where we stopped at some family property and enjoyed the beach. The drive up the coast was really amazing, despite the twists and turns that make it very slow. At the nearby Sea Ranch Lighthouse (which was closed) we ran into these two playful raccoons:

Road Trip 2004: Raccoons

with an accompanying sign:

Road Trip 2004: 'Do Not Approach the Raccons' sign

Last night we stayed with Zack in Arcata, and spent this morning with him, going to breakfast, to the coop (where he works), and to the square.

Another amazing drive up the coast today has brought us to Waldport, Oregon where we’re staying with Doug Mecham, a family friend.

Okay I didn’t want to do this, but I must gush…

Raccoons are sooo cute! Aww.. I want to hug one and take my chances at being mauled or arrested for approaching them..

Cute cute cute!!

I like raccoons because they can get hit in the head with a baseball bat and still keeping going. More bang for your buck. The tough, resourceful little bastards will outlive us all…

Ben, I need your AIM just so I can properly verbally abuse you for that comment.

The square rocks. And by the way, McKinleyville doesn’t have a space in it.

It does in the US Census Bureau data.

The US Census Bureau can shove off. We’ll run them down with our “right-of-way” horses.
