Up Late
Here I am, awake at 3 in the morning. Morning Edition just started, and I just finished a hack job of getting a statement of intent and short paper ready to send off to CMU (who, despite having my app in hand, seem to still be interested in me).
The paper is “On The Ownership of Children” and is a synthesis of Nozick’s libertarianism, Okin’s feminism, and the Lockean Proviso. It’s only 5 pages long, and would need to be quite a bit longer to make much of a point, but I like the basic structure of the synthesis. I think the really interesting part would be in applying this to issues of computers and “artificial intelligence.” You’d still have the same troubling issues of determing when Nozick’s characteristics apply (the ability to “have or strive for a meaningful life”), but it would certainly be interesting.
